Quaint Camas

I love the little town we live by. Alliyah & Ty go to spanish school in this downtown camas area. On Wednesday they had the "Boo Bash" where hundreds of kids went trick or treating to all the shops downtown. I could not believe so many kids went. It is the thing to do here. Very fun.

This is the lake by our house that has 6 miles of running trails all around.

Washington coast

We stayed in a yurt on the Washington coast. I was so excited. That was something I've wanted to do. I heard about yurts on the coast a couple years ago. It was the best camping. We had heat at night! That is one of the only things I dislike about camping - the shivering that takes place. All of us slept great.

I'm going to start showing a little bit of crafty things on this blog too. Why not. That is definitely one of my passions too. So here is the invite to our Halloween party this weekend, minus anything too personal like address and phone numbers. We are looking forward to it. My friend, Tracey, thought of it and asked if she could throw a party at my house. Well, but of course! If you know the Barnes you know we like to get people together. Tracey is doing all the games. This new little guy was the best baby I have ever taken pictures of! He is half chinese which gives him the most beautiful skin and eyes. He has his Dad's eyes and his mommas great lips. He is sure to be a stud! I'm so glad I got to take pictures of him. It was a very fun photo shoot. I love when moms are so fun and laid back. I was very impressed with this first-time mom. She just had fun with the shoot and I think babies can tell if there is stress in the room. No stress here = happy pictures!

He was born in the year of the tiger. What a fun shot.

Printing ideas

I thought I would show off the canvas cluster I had printed last month. I had simply canvas do the canvas pieces above the stairs. The big picture is 32X20, (2) 16X20, (3) 10X10's. They did a fabulous job printing them and mounting them on the really thick frame. I had chocolate brown printed around the sides on each print.

I loved the pictures we had taken with Kate and had a hard time choosing, and since I wanted my office to be decorated with bright vibrant colors I decided to go with this cluster of 9 8X8's. I had it printed with prodigital photos who I love! They have great papers and products. I had them printed on gator board, which is a black foam core. I stuck them on the wall with 3M picture stickers. Voila!!

China trip Day #2

I love this picture because it represents the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. The taxi's we road there were the fastest, craziest drivers we've ever been with. And they honk all the time. There seems to be no rules as far as following the lane lines. 3 lanes were constantly made into 4 lanes by traffic.

The fans that I paid too much for. I did do good at some of my bartering, other times I think I paid way too much. It was like monopoly money at times. Quite funny.

This is also one of my favorite pictures of the trip. I really wanted to capture the people of China. I saw a couple Grandmas having so much fun with their grandchildren. I imagined a much more stoic crowd in that generation I guess. This was so cute.

I have so much I want to say about China. I actually was able to journal each of my days in Shanghai because we had internet access. Unfortunately the Chinese government screens what websites you can get on... so I was not able to get onto my blogs. I was really bummed because I thought it would be great to post my pictures and comments as we went. Here is the first day and a little of my feelings. If you read my private family blog I will probably be posting similar things on that since I print that blog in our family book each year.

We started out by having a taxi come pick us up at our home in the US at 4:15am. Oh boy! Of course the $30 cab ended up being $60 after a short detour. Oh well. We flew to Vancouver, CA and hung out for 4 hours. The airport was beautiful. Then we were off to our destination of Shanghai. The plane ride to China was almost 12 hours nonstop from Canada. It flew by! We had so much fun together. Slept for only 2 or 3 hours, even with an ambien. Maybe the excitement got us. We had 3 good meals, watched a few movies and tv shows available on the seat in front of us, read some of my book and before we knew it we were here!

We took a private van that our tour guides from Brody’s MBA school had set up. On the bus we met the nicest couple, Alicia & Darrel, from Chicago. We unpacked and went for our adventure to the fabric market of Shanghai to buy Brody some new suits. The hotel wrote down where we wanted to go in Chinese and we showed that to our taxi driver. There we met a 22 year old girl that I saw each day while in Shanghai. She told me all about the customs, traditions. She took us to a restaurant in the back roads of Shanghai. No Americans around! Everyone rides bikes, rusty ones. Men pulling huge loads of scrap metal or other goods on trailers. Kids on small motorcycles with their parents in the middle of the street. Clothes drying from all the high rise apartment buildings. At dinner no one spoke English obviously. We found one picture that remotely looked like noodles and ordered that. A bunch of deep fried crispy noodles came out with shrimp that we didn't dare eat. But it was our first night! We were on a adventure. Through the subsequent days in China we weren't as "excited" about our rare Chinese food finds.

I have to post these now that I have finally completed my editing of everything in Nevada. Yeah! We miss our "cousins" tremendously. You know when you have found a great friend when you can fight like sisters and still love each other in an instance. I hope Alliyah and Eliza will always be friends. I have a special place in my heart for this girl. Really can I have a 10 year old best buddy? She is it. She was my babysitter at age 9 that I could call up in a moments notice to come help me, she folded and put away my clothes every week, she loved my kids like she was their sibling, she joked around and made me and Brody laugh all the time. She is sarcastic and so sweet. Sariah I miss you more than you know!

Hi Drama Teen. Yes, you heard me. I love this girl, but does she like to tease. Her mom and I were talking the other day and I think we were interrupted about every 3 minutes on whether I had her birthday present ready to send her. She was just giving me a hard time because I sewed them all bags with their names on it and she knows I haven't gotten around to doing hers yet. She might get it for Christmas :)

Well better late than never. These were taken back in May. I miss you guys! This is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. Very good friend. Ty was just saying the other day how he remembered you brought him cool popsicles when he had his tonsils out this year. For the record Melissa got these a while ago and told me she has already framed them in her house.

Briggs was not wanting to smile as you can tell in this first picture. We got him though! I think the first picture looks like a serious model.

These cute girls are dear to my heart. Samantha is Alliyah's best friend from her preschool and kindergarten class. They love each other so much. Samantha taught Alliyah how to tie her shoes. Samantha was just heart broken when Alliyah moved from her. I know we will always keep in touch. They write emails every once in a while which is cute. Her mom is one of the sweetest ladies I know too. Thanks for being our friends!

Hard to believe that all the little babies are 1 now. This little guy turned 1 on Cinco De Mayo. He is the most laid back baby I know but does not seem to like getting his picture taken! We tried and then had another photo shoot and tried again. Although he isn't giggling with excitement, I thought these pictures were just darling. Sometimes the crying pictures can bring a smile to the face too.

What are you doing for your Dad? Heather and Scott decided to have a movie made of their pictures for Scott's Dad. She told me he likes the older Sinatra type of music. This is what I came up with. It is about a Grandpa's love and how everything started with him. I think Scott's Dad will surely love it since he lives way back East. He adores his grandkids. Now what to do for my own Dad!? Mary Anne's bridals

Well I never even posted Mary Anne and Reece's engagement pictures. I got too busy and never did it. But I will because they had some really cute shots! I don't usually do weddings. This was my second wedding I've shot and although I loved being with this DARLING couple I think I will stick to families, children, seniors at this point in my life. Weddings are a lot of time and work. It really was so much fun being involved with their entire wedding day from the temple to the luncheon to the reception.
I can't even begin to share how amazing this ms. Mary Anne is. You just have to know her. She is one of the most simple, easy going girls I know. SUPER athletic, kind and fun. Her personality is wonderful. Her parents are right there at the top of the list of the most kindest people I know. Her dad was our stake president and then our home teacher while living here in NV. What a blessing he has been in our lives. Sorry, long post! Can you Nevada girls guess where these were taken at?

And crazy enough these were taken at the stake center! Can you believe it? Those lilac bushes were just by a bunch of asphalt. It worked out perfect though! Everywhere else here is pretty dead still. We were SO happy to wait last minute to take these so we could have some flowers in the picture

My dear friend makes the cutest kids don't you think?! This little baby was one of the easiest babies I've ever taken pictures of. She would start to fuss, her mom would make some noises and she would instantly calm down. They brought the cutest clothes and accessories.

Is this the cutest chubbiest baby ever! I made her mom let me take pictures of her without her clothes on. She might make me take these off the blog, but I think she is the luckiest mom to have a chubby baby. That is how they should be! So darling. Doesn't it make you want to kiss those cheeks!

Mackay is such a stud. He is quite the athlete and so handsome. He looks like he is ready to go off on his mission in these pictures. He was recently baptized. I can just imagine these pictures in his wedding video later in life and every one oooing and awing at how cute he was! I guess I have wedding on my mind because I am shooting a wedding this weekend. :)

The one of this little guy looking up at his mom is an image that I have in my mind from my kids, which is where I got the idea from. When I was pregnant with Boston especially, I loved my kids looking up at my belly in wonderment. our kids really do look up to us so much. That is one of my most favorite from this shoot.

China trip Day #7 Beijing

Summers Palace. Brody and I went there on the last day by ourselves while most people went home in the group. We were really glad to see this huge palace and property.

China trip Day #6 Beijing

I went with Brody to the business meeting for the morning. A wind energy company. I loved it.

The Great Wall of China. I'd like to say I got some great images there. It was what I thought would be the highlight of the trip. But because of all the smog and humidity it was not a clear day. It was amazing to walk on the Great Wall of China!

Randomly many Chinese wanted their picture taken with Americans. Especially blondes.

The whole MBA tour group on the last night all dressed up for our Imperial Chinese farewell dinner at Fangshan restaurant.

These girls put on a dance for all of us before dinner and then we mingled for a while before dinner began. This was the best dinner of the whole trip.

China trip Day #5 Beijing

Beijing Olympics. The birds nest, the watercube, and the Olympic torch. I really looked forward to going to all of these venues. I can't imagine how all the athletes performed during the Summer Olympics a few years ago with the heat and humidity we felt there. And the air quality was very poor. They were amazing structures and I was so glad to have the opportunity to be there!

Where Michael Phelps got all those gold medals! I will never forget that.

I had to buy one of these kites for my kids after seeing this little girl having so much fun!

Inside the birds nest
After the Olympic morning we headed to Dr. Tea for a tea party which is very popular in China. I enjoyed watching. Then we went to the old courtyard village, the hutongs, via ricksaw. We went throughout the city, visited a chinese family to see how they live, went to the old drum tower where they used to beat the drum every two hours to let people know the time.

We also got to end the day by visiting a Chinese Olympic athlete school where children go to live and then go home on the weekends. We saw 6-8 year olds learning gymnastics (swinging from the bars, jumping on the balance beam). They reminded me of Alliyah and I had such a hard time knowing these kids live away from home at such a young age. But to each his own.
We saw many young kids playing table tennis in a small tournament, and volleyball kids. This was a unique opportunity for all of us.

China trip Day #4 Beijing

We flew to Beijing and went straight to Tianemen square and the Forbidden city. I didn't know a lot of the history before I went there. Thankful for Darrel, our historian friend there that filled us in on all the crazy things that happened there. Forbidden city palace is the one from Mulan!! I knew that much just by seeing it.

All the girls on our tour - most MBA students too. And then below all the boys on the tour. We got to know most of these people and were thankful to make such great new friends.

The "in" thing in China for men is to lift up their shirts to be cool. It was Soooo hot and humid in Beijing.

And I took this because I thought it was so quaint.

China trip Day #3 Shanghai

This day was amazing, busy and hard. Brody started his day by going to a business meeting with a semiconductor manufacturing corporation. They make most of the chips and things for a lot of the world. Then at noon we met up for lunch which was not the greatest. I only ate steamed rice. It was a restaurant right on the bund river, and probably good food to most Chinese. I was just done with the smells of China food.
I started out my day by going with the spouse group to Zhujiajiao watertown. It was a Chinese Venice. Just beautiful.

Oh the yummy smells of China... steaming hot, marinated pork leg. Oh what about a bowl of marinate frog? I couldn't put that picture on the blog. I don't want to even look at that picture. The smells made me nautious in these small alleys.

Our amazing tour guide, Vicki. We were so luck to go to Shanghai during the 2010 World Expo!! We had the afternoon to spend there. Every country had a building they designed filled with interesting things about the country. Brody and I took a golf cart through the streets to see all the buildings. Some of our friends went to the Italy building and had an amazing lunch there. So sad we weren't with them. We did find a burger king and were in heaven to eat some fries.

This blue guy was everywhere in Shanghai. The mascot of the world expo (which was treated as special as the olympics).

We then went to the fabric market to pick up some clothes we had made and then we finished the evening with a fantastic acrobat show. The acrobats there start training at age 8. We got in trouble for taking pictures, but managed to get a few at the beginning.

China trip Day #2 continued

This was at the Jade Buddha temple in Shanghai. I was amazed with how many young worshipers were there praying to Buddha. They first would burn incense outside and then go into the temple to pray. It was so strange that tour groups were everywhere with tour guides telling us the history of the place while these people were worshipping. I felt bad for them, but they didn't seem to mind.
I love the picture of the monks. They were all quite young as well. What were the stats? I think 80-85% Buddhist and less than 5% Christian. Most of them don't practice on a weekly basis though. Very fascinating.

Preschool kids

This is the 3rd year I've taken pictures at a preschool close-by. I'm going to miss doing this when we move. Maybe I can find another preschool to go to. All the moms loved their kids pictures. In all 3 years I've never had a kid that didn't cooperate to the fullest. I think it is because their parents aren't there! I have to pull out the corky bag of tricks to get those smiles and laughs (like really, I wouldn't want any adults seeing me act like an idiot), but it works!

Baby actually gives closed mouth kisses. He says mmmmmmm for a long time and then kisses ya. This is one of those special mmmm kisses caught on camera. How sweet is this! I may just have to blow it up and put it in the boys room at the new house.

In Portland

I have been in Portland for the past week looking for a house to live in. I found my dream house! And hope to sign a contract tomorrow! I meant to update the blog with all my latest work and ended up forgetting my hard drive at home. I will be posting lots of pictures in the next week.

Any of you from Portland? This was my first time here, but I can tell you I love it! I think the whole first hour here my mouth was open at how gorgeous it is. It is a photographers dream.

I will be traveling to Reno once a Summer to take pictures of all my favorite families and friends! I will sure miss it there, but at the same time I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my families life.

This is a photo shoot I got to do while I was in Las Vegas for the WPPI photography conference. This is my great friend from Montana that now lives in Vegas. Our first babies and our last babies were born 1 week apart from each other and our middle kids are both 3, but not quite as close in age. She is a wonderful mom and her kids were so darling and cuddly. They sure made me feel welcome at their home. James, who just turned 1 loves to blow kisses to his mom. What a content, happy baby he is.

Moving

I want to give you all a heads up that my family is moving to Portland, OR. We are super excited about the new adventure although I am very sad to leave all the wonderful, kind and unique people we have met here. I have learned so much. I started my business here and am so grateful for all of the support and growth I've received.
We will be leaving in June. I will not be taking any more pictures after May 14th. If you would like family pictures I will only be taking a few families pictures so please schedule with me right away. I have a wedding I am doing in May and with moving I will not have time to do a lot.
I will only be taking pictures of friends or previous clients. No new clients. Sorry.
If you know anyone in Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA please send them a link to my blog and hopefully I can start taking pictures this summer while in Portland.

How time flies. I finally got the hat, the cake, the onesie and everything I needed for what was in my mind for this shoot. I couldn't have been happier with the final shots. These are priceless. I only wish that I had these for all of my kids!

Are these the cutest cuties ever! Their mom had the cutest accessories. It was such a fun photo shoot. Their Dad is one of the coaches at the University. Kennedy, 6, was so good at doing whatever we were telling her to do. In her beautiful red dress I was really trying to get her to show some personality and I think she did such a great job! And although Kensley can get around just fine, she actually stayed put for some beautiful pictures. She had such chunky legs. I loved it!! I will share more as I get them done.

My baby turns 1

Well a month ago my baby turned 1! I'm a little behind in posting if you haven't noticed. Sorry I haven't posted any new photos for a while. I've been busy the last few weeks with photo shoots and plan on getting them posted soon!

Viva Las Vegas

Wow, just got back from a fabulous photography conference last night. It was in Las Vegas for 4 days. The WPPI is the biggest wedding/portraiture conference. Thousands and thousands of photographers together in one hotel, the MGM. The energy, the creative spirit there was so inspiring, fun and eye opening for me. I hope to share a few things I learned there. My favorite speaker I went to was on Tuesday. Her name is Jasmine Star. Here is her promo video she started out with. It shows her spunky personality and inspiring nature. She started in 2006 and she is now famous. Wow!

I can not tell you how much I enjoyed being there all alone and going to the classes I wanted, seeing the vendors I was interested in and eating lunch wherever I felt. Sometimes it is nice to be alone, soul search a little and meet new people. I met a lot of very nice photographers and hope to continue learning from them. I love this journey I am on and appreciate all of my clients that have let me take pictures of you and your families. I hope to keep pushing myself to newer, better places. Thank you.

These are my sisters kids. When they came for Thanksgiving I was able to take some pictures of them. They now have a new baby brother, Owen who I look forward to seeing more of this summer hopefully.
My sister has 3 children, and yes her oldest just turned 2 1/2!!! Busy mama indeed. But a very dedicated, creative, loving mom always spending time with her children teaching, playing and tending to their needs. I'm grateful for her good example to me.

Brandon was Ty's anesthesiologist yesterday while he got his tonsils taken out. I was so grateful to know he would be taking care of my boy! These were taken back in November! I think I'm finally caught up with posts now.

I thought I would catch up on some posting. These were taken back in October! Our friend, photographer, surgeon, Bob Watson, took these pictures. I edited them. He is one of the best photographers I know and I was so grateful he was willing to take our pictures. The kids did pretty well. #1 had a rough time. I love the B&W image of her rubbing her eyes all sad while we are all having a good time. Classic. It actually shows their age and so I don't mind one bit.

This is the special family that helps me so much with my kids. They are my kids great friends and I can always count on them to help me whether it be borrowing a few eggs, to watching my kids while I go to the dentist. The 9 year old folds and puts away my laundry each week! How great is that!

This girl and her mom are such fun girls to be with. We had a great time shooting Katelynn's senior pictures. Her mom now has a senior and a 3 year old in preschool, with some in between. I can't imagine when my little girl is a senior. Katelynn is such a responsible, helpful, good girl.

This was one of my all-time favorites shoots I've ever done. The thing I loved was these colors! Aren't they great? If you want these next year, schedule in mid-October. This lady is the great preschool teacher who hired me to take pictures of her preschool classes. She is one talented lady. She and her husband have referred me to lots of people. Thank you! All the babies at church under 1 year. Is this not hilarious! It wouldn't be the same if one baby was missing. I love how the picture turned out. It really wouldn't be as cute if some babies weren't crying. I love how Megan is sitting on Boston's lap, Tessla has her thumb in her mouth and the other babies are just sitting there. The white onesies were perfect too. I'm grateful for good friends and good moms that surround me.
